Amino and Nordija debut pioneering new dual mode Linux/Android TV experience at IBC 2017

Partners to showcase solution that helps operators move to an all-IP/Cloud future

IBC 2017 15 September – Amino, the IP/Cloud video software and device specialist, and Nordija, provider of advanced content delivery solutions, will showcase at IBC 2017 a unique and innovative dual mode platform that enables operators to seamlessly move between Android and Linux-based TV delivery to provide a consistent, state-of the-art user experience.

The new solution combines Nordija’s latest FokusOn 4.0 middleware and Amino’s Kamai 7 devices, delivering the same style user interface in both modes. It was developed to meet growing operator traction for Android TV and the benefits it can offer in terms of speed of market deployment, content availability and a rich application framework that leverages the massive global Android development community.

Nordija’s Chief Commercial Officer, Jeroen van Vliet, comments: “Together, Nordija and Amino can now offer operators the flexibility of a platform that switches seamlessly between Linux and Android TV environments. As service providers seek to meet the demands of today’s modern, digitally-savvy consumers for the versatility to use different devices in the two modes in a cost effective way.”

Aminio’s Chief Technology Officer, Mark Evensen, adds: “Operators are looking for additional flexibility in their TV delivery – particularly as they migrate to an all IP/cloud future. Both Nordija and ourselves see Android TV as a competitive and compelling option for operators with numerous benefits in terms of speed to market, compelling content and a great user experience.”

Effectively, the Amino/Nordija solution provides the option to move between both modes even when devices have been deployed in the field via a remote software update. It can also eliminate costly investment in hardware and user interface development.

Both companies have been early adopters of Google’s Operator Tier certification programme which was introduced in 2016 and offers operators more control and customisation. It also provides full access to Google Play Store with its wide range of live channels, premium Subscripotion Video on Demand (SVOD) content, pay-per view content and a wide range popular apps including YouTube.

The solution will be demonstrated on both the Amino and Nordija booths – 14.K20 and 14.L06 respectively – at IBC 2017 which runs from September 14-19 at the RAI Amsterdam.

Amino’s Kamai 7 is a fully certified Android/Linux 4K UHD device that delivers Android TV capability alongside the company’s existing Linux-based Enable™ software platform. The device features integrated 4x4 802.11ac Wi-Fi to support multiscreen content distribution around the home plus full 4K UHD capabilities, including the latest High Dynamic Range (HDR) support. Voice control, federated search and popular OTT apps are also included.
