Amino joins industry heavyweights to discuss momentum behind Android TV at Cable-Tec Expo 2017

Cupertino, CA, 16th of October 2017 – Amino , the IP/Cloud video software and device specialist, today announced that at SCTE’s Cable-Tec Expo 2017, the company will join a prestigious panel consisting of major industry players for an interactive workshop to discuss the explosive growth of Android TV and the steps operators can take to deploy it effectively.

Cable-Tec Expo which takes place in Denver, Colorado (Oct 18 – 20th), follows on the heels of IBC 2017 in September, where Android TV emerged as one of the hottest topics from the show floor. In addition, recent research from Ovum revealed that more than 60% of people working for video service operators in global markets viewed Android TV as the technology they were most likely to deploy on future set-top boxes.

On Thursday, October 19th at 1PM on Amino’s booth #1819, Amino will be joining representatives from Google and Verimatrix for a workshop, moderated by Colin Dixon , Chief Analyst and Founder, nScreen Media , to discuss how Android TV has evolved and how we can expect to see future adoption growth.

Panelists include:

  • Jon Stewart, Head of America’s Partnerships, Google
  • Petr Peterka, CTO, Verimatrix
  • Mark Evensen, CTO, Amino

Amino’s Evensen comments: “We’re increasingly seeing across the industry that subscribers are willing to pay more and will churn less when offered a TV service that includes next-generation services, such as voice navigation and integrated OTT apps. However, implementation costs and complexities have meant only the largest MSOs could afford to deploy such advanced TV services until now, when Android TV has leveled the playing field.”

The workshop will look at how to achieve best practices for Android TV deployment, including: features and roadmap, satisfying content security requirements for linear and OTT content, supporting FCC mandates, ensuring legacy compatibility, and options for advanced in-home distribution, including wireless.

Evensen further notes: “We’re excited to be participating with industry leaders and look forward to discussing how operators can integrate Android TV into their existing business models.”

Google’s Android TV Operator Tier promises to revolutionise many operator business models by allowing service operators to own TV’s input 1 user experience and have their individual service as the default view for customers. This in turn, has brought conversation around Android TV’s evolution to the top of the TV industry agenda.

In September this year, Amino announced an industry-first Android TV deployment with Finland-based operator DNA, providing both mobile and set-top box end-to-end delivery for its multiscreen TV service, DNA TV-hubi. The implementation with DNA is the first large-scale commercial deployment of Android TV to go live.
